Helping Your School
Giving your child the best school experience relies on dedicated time and attention. That’s why we ask our parents to help out in a range of areas, in times that are manageable and realistic.
And, the more volunteers we have, the less time everyone needs to commit overall!
So how can you assist your child and their school? Here are some of the areas that you can help us out as a school volunteer:
The Learning Assistance Program (LAP)
This program gives students the opportunity to work one-on-one with a supportive adult, in areas they might need more help.
We’ll provide you with a list of program activities and subjects to choose from. You don’t need any special experience or education to be part of the program – just a willingness to spare 30 minutes a week to help students develop essential skills and confidence.
If you’d like to help us provide this essential service, please call into our front office, or call us on 8388 6116.
Our canteen is run entirely by volunteers and is our school’s major source of fundraising. In recent years, we’ve raised more than $12,000 per year which has been put toward new buildings and equipment for our students.
The canteen work is easy and fun! You may only need to help out once or twice a term, for just a few hours. Our volunteers are usually only required from 9:00am to 1:00pm on a Monday or Friday, but one hour shifts (9:00am to 10:00am) are offered for parents with limited availability.
The duties include:
- processing tuck orders (predominantly via online orders)
- preparing and serving the tuck (delivered on trays to the classrooms)
The canteen does not operate Tuesdays, Wednesdays (during Terms 2&3) and Thursdays.

The Nairne School Soccer Club was set up by a group of parents and now supports six teams, which play on Saturdays and train on Thursday afternoons during Terms 2 & 3. Help is always appreciated to coordinate, umpire and coach our student soccer teams.

Every school relies heavily on a hard working and committed Governing Council. Our council meets twice a term, usually on a Monday evening. If you are interested in what happens behind the scenes in a school and enjoy meeting new people and supporting children’s learning, then this might be the place for you.
